Fitness Film Review - Murderball

A close knit squad of players filled with grit and hungry for glory, going against all the odds to prove their worth in a match that will change their lives forever. An average flicks that follow this story line are everywhere, filled to the brim with clichés to make you cringe. Changing all that, is Murderball.

The film follows the story of the US quad rugby team, between the 2002 Swedish games and the 2004 Paralympics held in Athens. Packed with personal anecdotes and interviews with players and their families this documentary really captures the spirit of what it means to be a team willing to go the extra step to achieve gold.

On a fairly low budget the film has been shot without using expensive equipment, but that hasn’t stopped it from getting an Academy Award nomination. Also appearing on Entertainment Weekly’s list of The 50 Best Movies You’ve Never Seen, it isn’t surprising Murderball had a huge positive reception holding a 98% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sure enough this thrilling and adrenaline pumped movie is perfect to watch for any aspiring athletes in need of motivation. Showing what real commitment can do, Murderball is also a great example of the human condition and its potential when pushed to the limit.
