It’s not often that a film causes me to change my outlook on life, but Eddie the Eagle has forced me to take a look at how I approach weight loss.

With films coming out on a weekly basis it has become more and more difficult for each one to make a lasting impact. Maybe I’m just hard to impress but only about two or three films will leave a lasting impression with me. Eddie the Eagle has been running around my head for days.

The 2016 comedy, drama is based on the the story of Michael ‘Eddie’ Edwards, the notoriously tenacious British underdog ski jumper who charmed the world at the 1988 Winter Olympics. From the moment Eddie picks up his first copy of an Olympic moments of glory book as a young boy, Eddie is on his own mission to become an olympian.

Let’s not pretend that Eddie is a born athlete. He’s scrawny, he’s dorky, he’s just not an olympian. After miserably failing at every sport he finally finds his true calling in ski jumping. I have never seen a film with more knock backs, but Eddie’s determination and perseverance is a genuine inspiration.

Taron Egerton (Eddie) plays the part with a vulnerability and softness that is completely loveable. You want nothing more than for Eddie to succeed. Egerton, known for his roles in 2014’s Kingsmen and 2015’s Legend, bought layers of character to the beloved olympian.

Every time he gets knocked down (literally on a jump) he gets straight up and gives it another go. Perfect inspiration for those sets backs that you’ll come across in your own fitness and sport activities.

Eddie the Eagle is that magical combination of a good story, emotionally charged with a sporty edge. What’s not to love? If you’re looking for motivation, this true story will give you the strength to get past those humps that are holding you back.Photo credit: www.klatsch-tratsch.de
